The Red Hook Space

The Red Hook Space - As a worshipful community, we recognize that every aspect of our lives is a worshipful endeavor unto God. One aspect of being created in the image of God is that we are given the privilege to create with God! We are wrapped up in worship for what He creates within us and enables us to create with one another. Within this way of thinking, we are guided by the time-tested forms of liturgy and discipleship but are free to present the Gospel and do "church" in many ways. The vision is to establish a place were we can work to refine ways of creatively doing "church" in new contexts. We envision augmenting St. Paul's current offerings in Carroll Gardens with new ministry in the Red Hook area. In order to be more present in Red Hook, we hope to acquire a warehouse-type space that will enable us to come together for worshipful purposes and in creative ways with those seeking a deeper life in Christ and those who do not yet know Christ.

The Red Hook Space should be able to accommodate and encompass an array of different endeavors. Some examples:

1.) For Christians involved in the creative arts, a space for work, gallery showings, and performances for those artists wishing to enter into an intentional time to explore and understand how their faith is expressed through their art. This is not a ghettoization of "Christian art," but to show in many forms the creativity that is realized more fully through the transformation of our being by God's restorative work within us

2.) For liturgical and sacramental expression, we will strive to make known the living Tradition encountered anew in our time and context

3.) A dynamic "laboratory" where experimentation of new forms of ministry or worship within the Anglican Prayer Book form can be developed as our society continues to evolve and change. Other possibilities could include working with the passengers and crew of the cruise ships docking at the Red Hook terminal and developing supportive ways of working with the already established social service organizations, particularly helping kids develop strong senses of identity and the development of skills and talents for good futures
